For the uninsured children living in Alabama, there are some programs available—ALL Kids Program, SOBRA Medicaid, Public Education Employees Health Insurance (PEHIP) and Employees' Children's Health Insurance Plan (SECHIP). To qualify for any of these programs, there are some income guidelines that must be met. With the HDHP, you are required to pay a high annual deductible in exchange for low premiums. To go along with this option is the HSA, Health Savings Account. This is a tax-deferred account that allows you to withdraw and deposit money for medical expenses. The HSA option is a great plan for those looking for freedom over their health care and is looking to save for retirement. Once you reach the age of retirement, you can withdraw the money for personal needs.
Another option is a Fee-for-Service health plan. This means you have an agreement with an insurance company to pay for a pre-determined percentage of your medical expenses. It is required that you also meet an annual deductible; for example you could be paying a $500 annual deductible + 15% of your medical expenses. Although this plan is among the expensive of choices, you are given the freedom to have procedures you need that other traditional companies wouldn't cover. Choose to have basic or major medical coverage.
